Was Mary Magdalene a former prostitute as some claim?
No.
Was Mary Magdalene the
woman caught in adultery in
John chapter 8?
No.
Did Mary Magdalene later marry Jesus and have kids with
Him?
Absolutely not.
Was Mary Magdalene a disciple of Jesus out of whom
demons
had been cast out?
Yes: "Now it came to pass, afterward, that He went
through every city and village, preaching and bringing the glad tidings of
the kingdom of God. And the twelve were with Him, and certain women who had
been healed of evil spirits and infirmities - Mary called Magdalene, out of
whom had come seven demons, and Joanna the wife of Chuza, Herod’s steward,
and Susanna, and many others who provided for Him from their substance"
(Luke 8:1-3). Old and new heretical claims that Mary
Magdalene is a former prostitute, the
woman caught in adultery, and/or Jesus'
wife continue to sell blasphemous books and movies but are without any shred of Biblical
or other historical evidence.
What happened to "Mary the mother of James, and Salome"
(Mark 16:1) who originally had accompanied Mary Magdalene to the tomb?
"And as they went to tell His disciples, behold, Jesus
met them, saying, "Rejoice!" So they came and held Him by the feet and
worshiped Him. Then Jesus said
to them, "Do not be afraid. Go and tell My brethren to go to Galilee, and
there they will see Me" (Matthew 28:9-10).
So what is the correct sequence of events?
Mary Magdalene outran the other two women from the empty tomb, and said,
“They have taken away the Lord out of the tomb, and we
do not know where they have laid Him” (John 20:12)
to Peter and John (see
He is risen), who then ran to the tomb. While the two other women were
still going to "tell His disciples,"
most probably on a different route than the one Peter and John took toward
the tomb, Jesus appeared to the women as above, and then to Mary Magdalene
when she chased after Peter and John and returned to the tomb (see
Mary at the Tomb).
What did Mary Magdalene then do?
She went and "told the disciples that she had seen
the Lord, and that He had spoken these things to her" (John
20:18).
Did the disciples believe her, as well as the two
other women who also must have told them that they had met the
resurrected Jesus?
