JOHN 1:35-37 35 Again, the next day, John was standing with two of his disciples. 36 And looking at Jesus walking, he said, “Look, the Lamb of God!” 37 The two disciples heard him speak, and they followed Jesus.

What did John the Baptist do with his disciples?
He pointed Jesus out to them.

What did the disciples of John the Baptist do in response?
They followed Jesus.

How should this be different today?
It shouldn't. True disciples of Jesus direct everyone who tries to follow them to follow Jesus instead.

Who were the disciples of John the Baptist who followed Jesus?
Andrew was one of them and Philip probably was the other (see below).

JOHN 1:38-39 38 And Jesus turned, and seeing them following, said to them, “What do you seek?” They said to Him, “Rabbi” (which is to say, when translated, Teacher), “where are You staying?” 39 He said to them, “Come and see.” They came and saw where He was staying, and stayed with Him that day (now it was about the tenth hour).

Why do they reply to Jesus’ question about what they want with, "where are you staying" (John 1:38)?
Their desire to spend time with Jesus appears implied in their question about where He is staying.

Until what time did they stay with Jesus that day?
The “tenth hour” (John 1:39) was the tenth hour from sunrise, which was deemed to be at 6 AM, so they stayed with Jesus until 4 PM.

If you are a Christian, how much time do you spend with Jesus daily?

JOHN 1:40-42 40 One of the two who heard John speak and followed Him was Andrew, the brother of Simon Peter. 41 He first found his own brother Simon and said to him, “We have found the Messiah” (which is translated, the Christ). 42 And he brought him to Jesus. And having looked at him, Jesus said, “You are Simon, the son of Jonah. You will be called Cephas” (which is translated, A Stone).

Did Andrew introduce Peter and Jesus to each other?
Andrew told Peter about Jesus. Had he also told Jesus who Peter was, Jesus would not have repeated, “You are Simon, the son of Jonah” (John 1:42) to Peter. Jesus "looked at" (John 1:42) and knew who he was.

How?
The Creator knows His work.

JOHN 1:43-45 43 The next day Jesus decided to go to Galilee, and He found Philip and said to him, “Follow Me.” 44 Now Philip was from Bethsaida, the town of Andrew and Peter. 45 Philip found Nathanael and said to him, “We have found Him of whom Moses wrote in the law, and also the prophets: Jesus, the son of Joseph, from Nazareth.”

What and where are Galilee and Bethsaida?
The body of water most often called the “Sea of Galilee” (photo) is actually a lake through which the Jordan River flows in northern Israel. “Galilee” (John 1:43) also refers to the region around this body of water, and Bethsaida, which means “House (‘Bet’) of fish,” is a fishing village on its north shore.

How do you think Andrew and Philip said what they said in John 1:41 and 45?
They were most likely very excited and said those words in raised voices. The Bible records events, including many that are highly emotional, in a dry, matter-of-fact manner.

What is the first thing Andrew and Philip did after meeting Jesus?
Tell those closest to them about Jesus.
