Sexual Immorality

What is "sexual immorality" (Acts 15:20)?
Any sexual activity outside of marriage between a husband and his wife.

Is prostitution sexual immorality?
"Do you not know that your bodies are members of Christ? Shall I then take the members of Christ and make them members of a harlot? Certainly not!" (1 Corinthians 6:15)

Is adultery sexual immorality?
"Moreover you shall not lie carnally with your neighbor’s wife, to defile yourself with her." (Leviticus 18:20)

Is incest sexual immorality?
"None of you shall approach anyone who is near of kin to him, to uncover his nakedness: I am the LORD. The nakedness of your father or the nakedness of your mother you shall not uncover..." (Leviticus 18:6-7)

Is bestiality sexual immorality?
"Nor shall you mate with any animal, to defile yourself with it. Nor shall any woman stand before an animal to mate with it. It is perversion." (Leviticus 18:23)

Is pornography sexual immorality?
"Pornography" originates from the Greek root word πορνεια (porneia), which is translated "sexual immorality" in Acts 15:20, so pornography is sexual immorality by definition.

"But I am only looking at women, not touching them."
Jesus said, "I say to you that whoever looks at a woman to lust for her has already committed adultery with her in his heart" (Matthew 5:28).

"I want to stop looking at pornography but I can't."
You are hooked on dopamine.

What is dopamine?
The chemical that your nerve cells release and receive to induce pleasure during sexual activity. Dopamine is the relational glue that God designed into your body to bond a man to his wife: "Therefore a man shall leave his father and mother and be joined to his wife, and they shall become one flesh" (Genesis 2:24). Instead, you have used it to glue yourself to all kinds of filth.

"I find myself looking at more and more weird pornography."
Pleasure is felt not when dopamine is released but when it is received by the receptor nerve cells in your body. And God designed dopamine for occasional release to coincide with occasional sexual relationship with your wife. By constantly releasing large amounts dopamine while looking at pornography, you have desensitized your dopamine receptor nerve cells, which require the release of higher doses of dopamine to be stimulated, hence your search for more and more extreme filth.

"Is there no hope for me now?"
God in His grace designed your body to heal if you repent. If you stop looking at pornography, your body's dopamine receptor nerve cells will gradually heal and recover their sensitivity to dopamine, but only if you repent and never again look at pornography.

Is homosexuality sexual immorality?
"For this reason God gave them up to vile passions. For even their women exchanged the natural use for what is against nature. Likewise also the men, leaving the natural use of the woman, burned in their lust for one another, men with men committing what is shameful, and receiving in themselves the penalty of their error which was due" (Romans 1:26-27). "You shall not lie with a male as with a woman. It is an abomination" (Leviticus 18:22).

"But I am gay and I deserve sexual gratification."
"Gay" is a word that means happy or cheerful, which homosexuals hijacked in recent decades to put a positive spin on their sin. The Biblical name for homosexuals is "sodomites" (see below), and the only thing any human being "deserve" is the fire of hell. Everything we receive outside of hell, even our next breath of air, is an undeserved gift from God. Nobody "deserves" sexual gratification and certainly not abominable, sinful "gratification."

"But homosexual marriage is now legal in my country."
When you stand before God to be judged, do you think He will judge you by His law or by the law of a "wicked and adulterous generation" (Matthew 16:4)?

"But the majority of the people around me now accept homosexuality."
All men of Sodom around Lot's house accepted homosexuality - Now before they lay down, the men of the city, the men of Sodom, both old and young, all the people from every quarter, surrounded the house. And they called to Lot and said to him, “Where are the men who came to you tonight? Bring them out to us so that we can have sex with them." (Genesis 19:4-5) - and were destroyed when God "rained brimstone and fire on Sodom" (Genesis 19:24).

"But God wouldn't destroy my nation."
God destroyed even His chosen nation of Israel and sent it into exile when it sinned against Him and refused to repent, so why would He spare your nation?

Who must rise up against sexual immorality, including homosexuality?
Christians, but the 20% of "Christian" women and the majority of "Christian" men, including pastors, who report being addicted to pornography must first repent of their own sins.
