What Should We Do?
LUKE 3 COMMENTARY
Luke 3:7-9 Brood of Vipers

Luke 3:10-14 What Should We Do?

Luke 3:4-7 Sandal Strap
LUKE 3:10-11  10 And the crowd asked him, saying, “What should we do then?” 11 He answered and said to them, “He who has two shirts, let him give to him who has none; and he who has food, let him do likewise.”

What would John the Baptist say to someone who has a billion dollar bank account and knows about people starving in poor countries?

What would he say to someone who has a thousand dollar bank account and knows about people starving in your neighborhood?

LUKE 3:12-13  12 Then tax collectors also came to be baptized, and said to him, “Teacher, what should we do?” 13 And he said to them, “Collect no more than what has been appointed to you.”

Did John tell them to collect less than what has been appointed?

Then what would he say to those who pay taxes today?

LUKE 3:14  14 Likewise the soldiers asked him, saying, “And what should we do?” So he said to them, “Do not intimidate or falsely accuse anyone to extort money, and be content with your wages.”

What would John say to lawyers who launch frivolous lawsuits or doctors who perform unnecessary procedures for extra cash?

Is there anything he would say about how you earn your money?

Which items does the Bible say we need to have to be content?
“But having food and clothing, with these we shall be content” (1 Timothy 6:8).

Does 1 Timothy 6:8 mention owning a house?

Does it mention owning a luxury car?

What about the latest smart phone, video games or other toys?

What about all of the other things that your culture says you need to spend money on to be content?

Are you “content with your wage” (Luke 3:14)?
