Luke 1:80 In The Wilderness

Luke 2 Commentary
LUKE 1:80  80 And the child grew and was strengthened in spirit, and was in the wilderness until the day of his appearance to Israel.

Did Zacharias and Elizabeth dump off their son John “in the wilderness” when he was still a “child” (Luke 1:80)?
They were so old when Elizabeth gave birth to John that Zacharias initially didn't believe when the angel told him that they will have a child (see Angel Gabriel). Zacharias and Elizabeth most likely died of old age when John was still a child, and the orphaned boy then went into the wilderness.

What did he eat in the wilderness?
“Locusts and wild honey” (Matthew 3:4).

What did he wear in the wilderness?
“Camel's hair and a leather belt around his waist” (Matthew 3:4).

How long did he live in the wilderness?
John was at least six months older than Jesus (see Nothing will be impossible with God). Since Jesus “was about thirty years old when He began” (Luke 3:23) His ministry, John was also about thirty years old when he made “his appearance to Israel” (Luke 1:80) ahead of Jesus, so John lived in the wilderness for a couple of decades.

Did he get some schooling while growing up in the wilderness?
No, but he was “strengthened in spirit” (Luke 1:80) by God.

If you had to spend two decades in the middle of nowhere with nothing to eat and nothing to wear, with just God, would you like it?

If not, why do you want to go to heaven?
