What is a couch potato?
Someone who sits in a couch all day, ingests lots of food and
information while watching television, and does little else.
What is a pew potato?
A "Christian" who sits in a church pew Sunday after Sunday, attends
Bible study after Bible study, ingests lots of information, and does little
with it.
Is a pew potato a genuine Christian?
Imagine you're about to die of cancer. Suddenly a doctor appears
with a bottle of syrup and puts a spoonful into your mouth. You swallow,
are healed, and call Him "Lord," who then hands you the bottle and
tells you to go and offer it to your neighbors who are dying of cancer.
If the doctor returns a week later and finds the level of syrup unchanged in
the bottle and that you haven't offered it to anyone,
He will conclude that you either don't
believe that you were saved by what He gave you, or that He isn't your "Lord," who is
someone obeyed.
"How can I pass forward what I received?"
If you were in a Bible study that someone else organized, organize one
of your own, invite your friends, colleagues, neighbors, and
do for them what someone has done for you. Link your favorite pages of the
study on your social media, blog or
website. If you to speak another language, translate the study
for your people, as a volunteering Chinese Christian already has done for
the
Chinese.
"What if I don't yet know or believe the
Gospel?"
Cry out to Jesus to open your heart, eyes and ears
so that you will be among those who "see with
their eyes and hear with their ears ... understand with their hearts and
turn" (Acts 28:27) to Him, and then study the
Gospel of John.
"I have finished the study on Acts and have a comment or
suggestion."
