John 14 Bible Study
JOHN 13:31-32  31 So, when he had gone out, Jesus said, “Now the Son of Man is glorified, and God is glorified in Him. 32 If God is glorified in Him, God will also glorify Him in Himself, and glorify Him immediately.

Why does He say “Now" the "Son of Man is glorified, and God is glorified in Him" (John 13:31)?
Since those who will arrest Him had been sent for, the trap had been sprung.

Is Jesus saying that He Himself isn't "God"?
No, God the Son (see Son of Man) is referring to "God" the Father.

What does Jesus mean by "glorified"?
See "Glorified" meaning.

JOHN 13:33  33 “Little children, I shall be with you a little while longer. You will seek Me; and as I said to the Jews, ‘Where I am going, you cannot come,’ so now I say to you.

How much longer is "a little while longer" (John 13:33)?
Jesus would be on the cross within twelve hours.

JOHN 13:34-35  34 “A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another; as I have loved you, that you also love one another. 35 By this all will know that you are My disciples, if you have love for one another.”

How will people recognize Jesus' disciples?
By their "love for one another" (John 13:35).

What does Jesus want us to do to love one another?
See Love One Another.

JOHN 13:36-38  36 Simon Peter said to Him, “Lord, where are You going?” Jesus answered him, “Where I am going you cannot follow Me now, but you shall follow Me afterward.” 37 Peter said to Him, “Lord, why can I not follow You now? I will lay down my life for Your sake.” 38 Jesus answered him, “Will you lay down your life for My sake? Truly, truly, I say to you, the rooster shall not crow till you have denied Me three times.

What is Peter saying by, "I will lay down my life for Your sake" (John 13:37)?
That he is willing to die for Jesus.

What does Jesus mean by, “Where I am going you cannot follow Me now, but you shall follow Me afterward” (John 13:36)?
Peter will be martyred in due time.

What does Jesus mean by, "the rooster shall not crow till you have denied Me three times" (John 13:38)?
See Peter denies Jesus 3 times.

Is is easier to die or to live for Jesus?
For those who will go to heaven upon death, dying actually may seem easier than continuing to live in this sinful world. But until the One who laid down His life for us calls us to heaven, we are to live for Him.
